Is Productivity Actually Worth It? 💭

Welcome to Scaling Up with Sana. In this newsletter, I share with you a reflection of my week, our latest blog posts, current projects and finally, content that I enjoyed this week!
I hope you can take something away from reading this newsletter and I’d be more than happy to answer any of your questions so feel free to email them to me 📨 or let me know if there is anything you want me to discuss.

🔮 Reflection of my Week
Believe it or not but I’ve been having probably the worst few weeks of my life. Not sure yet if this is burnout, a breakdown or just a constant feeling of terror.
Mix that in with the overwhelming pressures of starting a Masters degree, trying to keep on top of content creating and still making time to *rest*.
It’s been making me think more about whether our ideal version of ‘productivity’ is even worth it. Do we need to have complicated systems and routines set up to avoid failure or is it just as simple as doing what we enjoy whilst prioritising our health first?
I’ll be okay, but it makes me wonder how exactly students are supposed to find their feet and get accustomed to this new challenge.

How to Stop Procrastinating on Design Work
Last week I wanted to tackle the age-old problem of flipping to an empty page in your sketchbook and not knowing how to start, where to begin, what to draw - or do!
I know firsthand how easy it can be to fall into the trap of procrastination at such an early stage in the academic year. Right now, things are steadily moving along, but you know as well as I do that the steep curve leading to multiple deadlines and crits is on its way.
This post takes a look at how you can avoid being a wasteman and start taking your design work a little more seriously 😁
🤗 Something I Enjoyed This Week
The 5 Minute Rule
The 5 Minute Rule
I’ve been procrastinating HARD. I know you’ve heard of the 3-year rule, the 2-day rule and now I’m hitting you with another productivity rule..
But I like this concept of just taking 5 minutes to do part of a task. Not all of it, just part of it. It’s like getting on the first step of the staircase. How this fits into the larger part of your daily habits and routines is irrelevant.
I believe that everyone works at their own pace so if those 5 minutes need to be stretched slightly, go for it. This 5-minute rule is exactly the reason why I’m working up the courage to even write this newsletter.
